This will ensure that nurseries, landcare groups, landholders and municipalities have a reliable supply of locally collected seed for their revegetation projects.
WHERE THE SEED BANK ORIGINATED
In 2009, the Werribee Catchment eTree Seed Bank was established by Grow West, a large scale landscape change project west of Melbourne, in partnership with Seeding Victoria and sponsored by eTree. Grow West is a major project of the Port Phillip & Westernport Catchment Management Authority that aims to revegetate 10,000 hectares of degraded land in the Werribee Catchment by 2030.
SEED BANK SPONSOR
eTree is a Computershare initiative with Landcare Australia and the major sponsor of the Seed Bank. The eTree program is aimed at providing shareholders with an environmental incentive to receive electronic registry-related communications; these may include company annual reports, newsletter, statements etc. Since its launch in March 2004,over 75 companies have joined the program. For every security holder who registers with eTree, a donation of up to $2 is made to Landcare Australia on their behalf to support vital reforestation projects across Australia. Grow West is one of these projects supported by eTree and Landcare Australia.

HOW TO GET INVOLVED
Seeding Victoria undertakes an expression of interest process in helping to identify the seed needs for individual projects within the Werribee Catchment. If you have a project that requires access to indigenous seed please speak to Seeding Victoria who will assist you through the process. If you are a professional seed collector, hobbyist or landcare group, Seeding Victoria may purchase your indigenous seed if it has been collected according to Seeding Victoria guidelines and there is a demand for it within the Werribee Catchment. Seed collectors must obtain a permit from Department of Sustainability and Environment for the collection of seed on public land. Application forms can be obtained from DSE offices or by calling the Customer Service Line on 136 186. In most cases, you do not require a licence or permit for seed collection on private land.
